“Where you look affects how you feel."
-Dr. Grand
Brainspotting is a trauma-informed therapy that can help people process experiences, emotions, and memories that may feel difficult to access through traditional talk therapy alone.
Brainspotting uses a person’s visual field to help identify points—or “brainspots”—that may be connected to emotional or physical responses. With the support of a trained therapist, clients are given space to notice and process thoughts, emotions, memories, and body sensations that arise.
Brainspotting may be used with people experiencing trauma, anxiety, emotional distress, grief, difficult life experiences, or patterns that continue to feel stuck.
Brainspotting sessions are guided by your individual needs and comfort level. Your therapist may help you identify a specific issue or feeling you’d like to work on and then use your eye position to explore where you notice the strongest response.
Unlike approaches that rely primarily on talking through an experience, Brainspotting allows space for your brain and body to process what comes up without requiring you to explain every detail.
Our trauma-informed therapists will help you move through the process at a pace that feels manageable and supportive.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed by past experiences, or curious about a different approach to therapy, Brainspotting may be worth exploring. Our Charleston therapists can help you determine whether Brainspotting fits your needs and goals.
